Description: |
|
Between the ninth and sixth centuries B.C. the town was the centre of the elegant Villanova civilisation, which has left behind some particularly beautiful objects (thrones, furniture, fabrics, jewellery, pots and weapons). These are now preserved in the Villanova Archaeological Civic Museum. The hundred-year old Mastin Vecchio, founder of the Malatesta family, descended the valley from here to conquer the town of Rimini. The old town has preserved its medieval origins intact and the whole area is rich in historic remains. There's the Villanova necropolis, and old parish churches and convents, which contain many rarities such as the ancient cypress tree of St. Francis. Patrono: Saint Martin (11th november).
